Notes
"ART DECO GATHERED influences from the preceding two decades of modern art, combining the geometric planes of Cubism, Futurism's celebration of speed and machine technology, the Constructivists' love of industrial materials and usable objects, and a Fauvist or Ballets Russes feeling for color and simple, flattened shapes. The Poiret-like roses of number 3, for example, have a primitivist simplicity and boldness that would not seem out of place in certain kinds of traditional folk costume, particularly as interpreted by the Ballets Russes. But the fractured triangles and lozenges of number 4 look distinctly Cubist and twentieth century."
