How To Search (well!) in DiscoverWorks

To locate a work on the DiscoverWorks site, use one of the DiscoverWorks search tools referenced below. If you do not locate the work you are searching for, consider adding it to the DiscoverWorks. See Add a Work below for details.

DiscoverWorks uses the standard WikiMedia search functionality, with several extensions.

Searching by Keyword: Standard Search Find

Instructions: Put your search term(s) in the Search box, or in the box on the Find a Work page, and hit Find

Searching by Categories:

Categories are used in DiscoverWorks in lieu of a controlled subject vocabulary. Participants may create new Categories as they find necessary and useful.

Click on the list of Categories and select the one of interest to you. http://www.discoverworks.org/wiki/index.php/Special:Categories

Advanced Searching:

We haven’t enabled an Advanced Search feature. Yet. However, you can narrow your results by restricting [namespaces] (rather than search the whole site) Advanced Search Search Available namespaces: o Main o Talk o User o User talk o DiscoverWorks.org o DiscoverWorks.org talk o Image o Image talk o MediaWiki o MediaWiki talk o Template o Template talk o Help o Help talk o Category o Category talk o List redirects Note: In all of DiscoverWorks’ search functionality to date, additional terms have an implicit Boolean “OR” , such that entering more terms results in more hits, not fewer. Boolean NOT and AND are not (yet) available.
